Erode Bypoll Election Result 2025 Live Updates: DMK’s V C Chandhirakumar won the Erode bypolls. He secured 1,14,439 votes and defeated his rival, M.K. Seethalakshmi of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), by a margin of over 90,000 votes. The Erode East seat fell vacant after the death of incumbent MLA EVKS Elangovan of Congress.
The polls in Erode has been a cakewalk for Chandhirakumar, taking on Naam Tamizhar Katchi’s M K Seethalakshmi, a less formidable opponent. According to a report in Deccan Herald, by-polls in Tamil Nadu have always tilted in favour of the ruling party, be it the DMK or the AIADMK, since the 1990s, with widespread allegations of bribing the voters.
This by-election came at a critical time for the DMK government, which has been under scrutiny due to recent controversies, including the Anna University sexual assault case and concerns over law and order in Tamil Nadu. Determined to use this election as an opportunity to reinforce public support, the DMK approached the contest seriously, despite the absence of the AIADMK and the BJP candidates.
