This time we're doing some woodworking to make a live edge topographic table. This live edge wood coffee table is made from an old rotted stump that I found in my abandoned building, when I took possession of it. I decided to do something other than the typical epoxy resin to fill the void in the middle of the slab, because aren't we all a little tired of epoxy resin being used everywhere? First, I used my custom router flattening jig to flatten the wood stump. I then used Fusion 360 to model a 3d topographic mountain range and cut the mountain model out of walnut on my CNC. The walnut mountain inlay follows one of the growth rings on the wood stump. I removed the rotted core of the stump and inlaid the walnut mountain insert to fill the rotted area.
