The urbex steel plant closed permanently sometime around 2014. This closure resulted in many redundancies, there were no fewer than 11,000. But history goes back even further. It is even said that the company existed before Belgium itself. But then the steel industry was not yet so developed. Even in 1850, Heavy Metal was already the largest steel factory in the world. The reason the factory had to close is because the demand for steel was decreasing.
