Planet: Veyrith-9
Location: The Shattered Expanse
Star System: Polarin Arc
Galaxy: Lyra Ascendancy
The frozen plains of Veyrith-9 are an unending expanse of silence and wonder. The surface glistens with jagged shards of ice, each one fractured and polished as if shaped by an unseen hand. These crystalline monoliths glow faintly in the cold light of Polara, the dim star that hangs low in the sky. It’s hard to tell if the light is real or merely a trick of my exhausted senses, worn thin by the biting cold and the eerie stillness of this place.
This world feels untouched by time, as though it has existed in perfect isolation since the birth of its star. Gravity here is slightly lighter than Earth’s—just enough to make every step feel like floating. My breath condenses in the freezing air, forming clouds that linger before fading into the void. Temperatures hover near absolute zero, forcing me to monitor my suit’s thermal regulators constantly. Any malfunction here would be fatal within minutes.
The ice formations are unlike anything I’ve encountered. Their color—a vibrant, electric blue—seems to pulse faintly, as though alive. A scan reveals an unusual crystalline structure rich in rare minerals, including traces of thulium and an unclassified compound. Could this explain the faint luminescence? My onboard AI struggles to decode the chemical bonds, as if the materials themselves resist understanding.
The journey to this point wasn’t easy. A navigational array failure during descent left me miles off course, forcing an exhausting trek across the tundra. My rover, now half-buried in snow at the landing site, remains operational but strained by the extreme cold. Still, I feel a strange gratitude for these challenges—they make the discovery all the more profound.
The wind has died down now, leaving only the soft crunch of my boots on snow and ice. The air is thin, almost sterile, with a faint metallic tang. I wonder if this is what pure isolation feels like—a complete detachment from anything familiar, surrounded only by the vast, indifferent beauty of the cosmos.
A philosopher once said, "In solitude, we find not the absence of others, but the presence of ourselves." Here, on Veyrith-9, that sentiment feels almost painfully true. The silence is deafening, and yet it carries a strange comfort, a reminder of the infinite smallness of human existence against the grandeur of the universe.
The horizon stretches endlessly, broken only by the distant shadow of a mountain range. If I had the resources, I would journey there. Perhaps it holds answers, or perhaps just more questions. For now, I remain here, recording these fleeting moments of awe and insignificance.
