SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Officials are warning of a growing cybercrime known as the SIM swap scam, which allows criminals to take control of your phone and potentially wreak havoc on your life.
The scam involves deceiving a cell phone provider into switching a victim's SIM card to another device, granting scammers access to personal information and accounts.
Brandon Amacher from the UVU Center for National Security Studies said, "People have this vision in their head that it's much more sophisticated than it actually is. Well, in reality, all it is is convincing someone in a call center."
