Sims 1 vs Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 - Clothes Shopping
Sims 1
In The Sims 1, Sims wear Normal clothes by default. It is not possible to purchase Normal outfits. The Sims: Hot Date added the ability to visit community lots to buy new outfits for different categories. Every category of clothing has its own clothing rack. Your Sim can browse and try the outfit before buying it. After choosing an outfit, The Sim will go into a changing booth to try it on. Then they will pose in front of a mirror. After some time, the clerk will ask you if you want to buy the outfit. If you say yes, The Sim will change clothes right on the spot and follow the clerk to the cash register. and physically pay for the outfit with real money. A Sim that is on a date can buy an outfit for their companion. they can choose an outfit for their date to try on.
Sims 2
In the Sims 2, Sims must go to community lots to buy clothes if they want to have new clothes and change what they're wearing. Sims can buy clothes for other ages, and for the opposite gender. Like in The Sims 1, they can buy clothes immediately, or they can first try them out.
When a Sim picks an outfit to try it on, they will take it from the clothing rack and will go into a changing booth and pose in front of a mirror. After you decide what clothes to buy, your Sim will go to the cash register to pay for it. A funny detail you might have missed in The Sims 2. If you go to try an outfit in one of these dressing rooms, you'll notice there are cameras on top of them. The cameras go down and look at your Sim while they're changing.
Sims 3
In The Sims 3, players have the ability to customize the pattern and color of every piece of clothing, they can adjust almost anything, straight from their dresser. But With Sims 3: Into the Future, Sims have the option buy outfits and have a shopping experience. But they can only buy clothes that are displayed on mannequins. They will purchase it right on the spot and change their outfit. They can also choose to randomly display an outfit on the mannequin from these categories. After they've seen it on the mannequin, they can choose to buy it. In the Sims 3, Sims can only buy clothes for their own age and gender, so when they approach a mannequin, the mannequin will change into an outfit appropriate for that Sim's age and gender. Sims can also purchase a custom outfit. This will open CAS and works the same way.
Sims 4
In the Sims 4, Sims can plan any outfit they like, because everything is already available in their dresser. With The Sims 4: Get to Work, Sims can go to a community lot to try on and purchase only pre-made outfits on mannequins. When trying out outfits, like In The Sims 3, they will change right on the spot. If you decide to purchase the outfit, your Sim will be automatically charged and will change in those clothes.
With Sims 4: High School years, Sims can now go to a thrift store.
At ThrifTea, Sims can buy clothes that they wouldn't be able to access trough CAS. Sims can put together up to 5 custom looks. After creating your look, you will be automatically charged, and the outfit will appear in your inventory. You can sell the outfit on the new Trendi app.
Trendi is a platform that Sims can use to sell their thrift store outfits or buy outfits created by other Sims.
