Singlehanded, I grab a mooring by approaching the mooring ball in reverse. This makes it easy to see, and easier to grab it with a boat hook and mooring line as it is much lower and easier to reach. I then walk the mooring line forward and tie it off to the bow. This was a suggestion from a viewer. Thank you for this suggestion! I believe I will do it this way now from here on in!
