Today, we compare the Cadillac Escalade and BMW X7. We’ve chosen the top Escalade Sport Platinum and the base X7 XDrive40i with most options. The X7 has a traditional BMW design with a chrome kidney grill and split headlight design. It features LED turn signals and headlights. Customization options include crystal headlights and an M Sport package with blue or black brakes, blacked-out trim, and more wheel options. The Escalade has more blacked-out trim, especially with the Onyx Package and Sport Platinum trim, giving it a more aggressive look. It has a large grill, a monochrome Cadillac crest, animated headlights, and functional vents. Chrome trim is available for other trims. The X7 has 21” and 22” wheels, while the Escalade has 22” wheels. The X7 has more chrome trim, while the Escalade has more black trim. Both vehicles have power running boards, mirrors with heating, blind spot monitoring, power folding, and auto dimming. The Escalade has iconic tall taillights with LED elements, while the X7 has traditional taillights. Both have animations, tow hitches, and exposed exhaust pipes. The interiors differ, but both are luxurious. The X7 has realistic faux leather with quilting, heating, ventilation, massaging, and 20 power-adjusting seats. Merino leather is also available. The Escalade has real quilted semi-aniline leather seats with heating, ventilation, massaging, and 18 power-adjusting seats. Both steering wheels are fully leather-wrapped with easy-to-use controls, power adjustment, and heating. The X7 offers customization, but the Escalade takes it further with a full-screen map, augmented reality camera, night vision, and a traditional gauge, all with higher resolution. Materials are equally impressive, with the X7 offering more customization for wood trim and the Escalade providing glossy wood trim, real leather, and aluminum trim. Storage is ample in both, but the Escalade has more side console storage, cup holders, and a cool box in the center armrest. Climate controls are built into the X7’s screen but are challenging to use, while the Escalade offers digital controls and redundant physical controls. The X7 uses BMW’s latest iDrive 8 software on a 14.9-inch display, featuring a highly advanced personal assistant, a high-quality glass control knob, and built-in navigation. The Escalade may lack features, but it boasts the best display quality on the road, with an OLED display that looks stunning. Cadillac’s latest software is not installed in the X7, as it’s only available in the 2025 model. The infotainment system is integrated into a curved 38” display that houses the gauge cluster and main screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, but they occupy a small portion of the screen due to the display’s shape. The X7’s sunroof lights up at night, while the Escalade can raise and lower the third row. The second row offers luxury features, including power-adjustable seats and captains chairs. The X7 is slightly smaller but still provides adequate legroom for most families. Standard power-adjustable seats come with built-in pillows and heating. The X7 has four USB-C ports, a seat back pocket, an iPad mount, two climate zones, heated seats, and storage. The Escalade offers comfortable manually operated seats, rear entertainment with built-in YouTube, Hulu, and YouTube Kids, USB-C and HDMI ports, and a third climate zone. The X7 has the most amenities in the third row, including cup holders, a power-shaded sunroof, a fifth climate zone, heated seats, USB-C ports, and ambient lighting. The Escalade has more space, but not as many amenities. In the trunk, both have plenty of space, but the Escalade’s larger size will allow it to have more space. The third rows will both power fold, but the X7 has an exclusive feature of a power folding second row. The Escalade has a maximum of 122 cubic feet while the X7 has a maximum of 91 cubic feet. Under the hood, the BMW X7 has two powertrains. We have the base powertrain known as the XDrive40i. That is a 3.0L inline 6 cylinder with 375 horsepower and 383 pound feet of torque. The Escalade has a 6.2L V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound feet of torque. The Escalade has more power, but the X7’s lighter weight and more sporty dynamics will allow it to get to 60 a second quicker. Would you buy the Cadillac Escalade or BMW X7?
