In early December we always go up into the Daisetsuzan National Park to check the snow pack. Just across the valley from Furano is the Tokachidake area which is at the southern end of the range.
The main objective is to see the depth of the snow and the coverage. It can take a while to ski safely up there as there are bushes which grow over 2 meters and these need to be covered.
We will look at the various layers in the snow and do a number of snow stability tests.
