Documentary revealing the technological leaps forward that enabled Asia’s largest observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer, to be built. When it first opened 2008 the Singapore Flyer was the tallest skywheel on Earth, rising 165 metres into the sky. It can whisk 1,260 passengers around hourly to see a stunning 45 kilometre panorama of three different countries below. This film explores five landmark observation wheels, including the original Ferris Wheel and London Eye, that each feature a major technological innovation that contributed to the construction of the Singapore Flyer. Using computer generated animation we reveal the incredible stories behind these structures and the inventions that have driven them higher. Five ingenious leaps forward that enabled the observation wheel to evolve from BIG, to BIGGER, into the world’s BIGGEST. 00:00 – Introduction 02:49 – Construction – Ferris Wheel 14:02 – Drive – Earls Court Gigantic Wheel 22:49 – Capsule – London Eye 35:54 – Stability – Star of Nanchang 43:51 – Safety – Singapore Flyer Episode from the “Big Bigger Biggest” documentary series exploring the engineering breakthroughs that have enabled us to develop some of the largest structures in existence.
