ABOUT -Press release of this unique concert:
The performance of Sly and his Family Stone is one of the most anticipated shows of the festival. The funk legend that couldn't be found for years suddenly emerged on stage at the Grammy Awards. Boasting a blond Mohawk he did a short performance with the original Stone band (but without bassist Larry Graham). It was his first musical performance since 1987. At the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies singer/keyboard player/guitarist and funk pioneer Stone reached the absolute star status in America with hits like for example: Dance to the Music, Every Day People, Family Affair. He and his band played an important role in the development of soul, funk and psychedelic music. Especially his album There's a Riot Goin' On became a classic, which Prince even stamped as 'the bible of soul music'. After that Stone went downhill and the illustrious musician lived the life of a recluse. When, in 2005, the word was out that Stone was writing again, his tumultuous career had a serious upswing. Last year an extensive tribute album to Sly & The Family Stone featuring numerous artists was released. To top that his first seven albums have been remastered with extra tracks.
