Linda Diamond, author Teaching Reading Sourcebook and Assessing Reading: Multiple Measures, will document the research that supports word recognition skills taught in small groups from the start. She will discuss the advantages of small group, differentiated word recognition instruction for advanced children and for young children experiencing early difficulty. Linda will explain why word recognition skills, also considered constrained skills, unlike language comprehension, can be taught to mastery, often the method used by Direct Instruction and little direct instruction programs. Finally, she will acknowledge the challenge of multiple differentiated groups but provide a solution used by effective programs. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=277680247782077
