I feel like sometimes I come across things in life that I wish I knew about years before I did. One such thing is my power takeoff-driven skidding winch. Such a tool seems so simple but has changed the way I do things so much so that I'm able to work faster, safer, more efficiently and with less physical effort. Coming from a background of using nothing but hand operated winches, this skidding winch has made things a lot easier on my body and allowed me to begin enjoying challenging tasks such as the removal of trees from dense areas of a forest. On today's episode I do just that in which I pull out a tree that was cut down recently but has numerous branches hung up on adjacent trees. Without having to go to too much trouble, I use my Wallenstein FX 85 Skidding Winch to pull out the tree using a snatch block. Check out my rigging and the setup I use to get the job done.
