Easily mistaken for a Mini, the Smart #1 Brabus is a looker. It does the century sprint in 3.9 seconds. Brakes are good, just like on the #3, which is slightly quicker and has a bit more range.
What the #1 has that the #3 does not is an electric sunshade, assignable physical shortcut button on the steering wheel and rear seats which and be moved forward and backward. This affects the boot space: 323L to 411L to 986L (seats folded). It also has a tiny frunk - 15L.
Rear legroom is plentiful thanks to its 2750 mm-long wheelbase.
The Smart #1 Brabus rides on 235/45R19 rubbers. They cost around RM1000 to RM1200 per piece over here in Malaysia or USD224 to USD270 in the US. It's 66 kWh battery offers a range of 400 km WLTP.
There are 3 variants for the Smart #1 with the Brabus topping the range. Prices are as follows:
smart #1 Pro single-motor RWD – RM189,000
smart #1 Premium single-motor RWD – RM219,000
smart #1 Brabus dual-motor AWD – RM249,000
Range isn't the strongest point of the smart #1 as you can see below:
smart #1 Pro single-motor – 315km WLTP
smart #1 Premium single-motor – 440km WLTP
smart #1 Brabus dual-motor – 400km WLTP
What it does have which its rivals do not is a live charging app that integrated with 85% of charging stations in Malaysia. It's tell you exactly where the available charging stations are and you only need to pay through that app. You do not need to download individual charging station apps.
For town driving only, the Pro variant should suffice. For those who want to travel a bit, get the Premium. We'd prefer the #3 Brabus to the #1 Brabus. We like the uniqueness of the Mini's interior but the Brabus touches appeal to us, especially the Atom Grey Matte body colour with the Radiant Red roof and the Brabus badging.
