Well, just after I found and fixed the leak source in the roof, we got hit hard and fast with a ton of heavy snow. A lot of trees fell in the neighbourhood, and although I knew there were trees down in our forest on our trails, I didn't expect to see a tree on top of my fort.
When I picked that location to build this thing, I knew from the get go that it was a landing area for trees to fall (I cleared about a dozen from the ground), so I spent quite a bit of time clearing the area of the dead standing trees and assessing for hazardous trees, and the one that fell was a healthy hemlock. However, hemlocks have big pendulous limbs, and the weight of the snow on all those limbs caused the tree trunk to snap. There are many more trees on the property that couldn't take the weight of the snow and have collapsed. Looking at things now, perhaps I'll be taking down a few more trees next year, or at least, figuring out a way to reduce the limbs on a few trees.
Anyway, all things considered, I am SO lucky that very little damage was done (the full extent isn't known yet though). It's kind of crazy to know what actually saved the place!
Not what my plans were for this video, so I guess we'll have to get to those plans in the next one! (or two!).
Thanks for watchingl
