A catcher has several responsibilities on the softball field. One of the most important is being able to block a wild pitch to prevent runners from advancing.
To properly block a ball in the dirt, start in an athletic stance. When the ball comes to you, you will first need to drop to your knees. Then, create an angle with your back and cradle over top of the ball. Next, keep your chin down and place your glove between your legs. This can help keep the ball in front of you.
