Run Forest Run Infield Drill: This is a great drill to help develop your players infield defensive skills, working on their backhand, forehand and making accurate throws on the run. You can make this a fun and competitive game.
*
Setup of Drill: Have on 1 coach setup in the middle between home and first base line and a 2nd coach also in the middle of home and third base line, both with a bucket of balls. Divide your team into half. One team ready with their gloves on the first base side of the bag, with one player on that team on third base with an empty bucket. The other team is on third base side of the bag and one player from that team on first base with an empty bucket as well. Coaches will hit a total of 4 ground balls in total. Two for the player coming from the opposite of them, and 2 to another player who started from their side of the field. This will continue for each player until all players have moved to the other side of the diamond.
*
Step 1: One coach says GO!!! Both coaches hits a ground ball at the same time. The coach on the third base side hits a ball to the first base area and the coach on first base side hits a ball to the third base area.
*
Step 2: One player from each team will field the ground ball hit. Players on the first base side of the bag, will go left to right and field the hit ground ball from the third base side coach on their backhand and make a throw to their teammate on third base. The player starting from the third base side of the bag, will field the ground ball on their forehand, hit from the coach on the first base line and then make a throw to their player on first base.
*
Step 3: Each player will keep moving the direction the ball was hit. So the player from first base, who fielded the first ground ball will have another ball hit to them close to second base, then make a throw to third base player again. While the player coming from the third base side, will receive another ground ball in the Short Stop position close to second base, then make a throw to their player on first base.
*
Step 4: Both these players will move to the other side the diamond and receive two more ground balls, now hit from the other coach. The player who started from first base will receive the ground ball now in the ShortStop Position, throw to third base and then one more ground ball close to third base and do a light underhand toss to third baseman. That player should have received 4 ground balls and be on the other side of the diamond they started at. The player who started on third base side will also receive two more ground balls, one in the second base area, and then one more closer to first base, while making the throw to the first baseman. Also receiving a total for 4 ground balls and now on the first base side of the bag.
*
Step 5: The next player in line from each team will then go field the four ground balls, until all players from each side have moved to the other side of the field. Now count how many balls are in the bucket for each team and record how many.
*
Step 6: Now each team will do the same drill all over and field the ground balls but opposite of what they did the first time. Players from first base side will now do backhand fielding and players on third base side will now do forehand fielding.
*
This is a great drill to help develop your infield fielding skills (forehand d & backhand) and throwing skills. Winner of the game is the team with the most balls in their bucket after doing the drill from both sides. Later when your teams get really good at this drill, you can time them and see which team does it quicker. 🥎🥎🥎 #EasySoftballDrills #Softball #SoftballPracticeDrills #FunSoftballDrills #infielddrills
