Solo Moorland Wild Camping in the One Tigris Tetra 160 & NEW GEAR for 2023
I head out to the eerie moorland for a long overdue solo wild camp using a new tent, the 'Tetra' (160 version), by One Tigris. It has been a long time since my last wild camp, almost two months; so I was really looking forward to a break in nature. The signs of spring are beginning to show now and it was nice to hear the first Cuckoo on this trip too.
I set the shelter up in a lovely area and was impressed by the ease of pitching. It has lots of room and a nice sewn in mesh inner tent (this is unique to the 160 version - the 130 does not have this inner). The new gear theme continued on this one and I take the time to show you some of the new bits of kit I will be using over the coming year.
A new mat - I've used my 'old' Thermarest NeoAir X-Lite since it was brought out, various versions have been released but I've owned the original for over 10 years! Thermarest have brought out some big upgrades to their mats with their NXT range in both the XLite and XTherm! I have now got the XLite NXT MAX - which denotes the rectangular version as I am wanting to try something with a bit more surface area for extra comfort - the extra weight and bulk is negligible.
I had a great sleep on the new mat - which is thicker and warmer and I intentionally did not bring along my usual foam mat to put down first to see if that extra 'R Value' was noticeable - it was and I was warm and comfortable throughout the night.
I have also invested in an 'Enigma' quilt by Enlightened Equipment. I've wanted to try using a quilt for years now and again, I was not disappointed. Superb quality, very warm and with a sewn in foot box in this version to ensure your feet stay covered and warm. I was very impressed with the quilt and mat and will be producing a side by side comparison video of the mats soon. I also used a new light by Klarus Light, the CL2 - which I used to achieve that 'Hygge' feeling as the light fell across the moors.
A stunning location, very relaxing and exactly what was needed to relax and reset.
I hope you enjoy the video and if you have any questions about the kit and gear I have used, please just ask and I will get back to each and every one.
I will see you on the next adventure and remember, always leave no trace.
