At one corner, 18 km from Pai, the road was in terrible condition, but the opposite lane had been freshly paved. I switched lanes, and suddenly, I lost control. The new tar was uneven and loose. I realized I was falling, tumbling onto the road. My bike went silent—engine and speakers dead. In the darkness, all I could hear were the sounds of insects and birds chirping. For nearly two minutes, I lay there, staring at the sky as the first light of dawn began to break. I didn’t move. In the dim morning light, the faces of my wife and children flashed before me. I prayed that this sky above me wouldn’t be the last thing I saw before eternal darkness. In those two minutes, I realized many things I can’t fully express here...
At that moment... I knew... I wanted to go home. I wanted to see my wife, Dzety Diana. I wanted to see my children. Even if it was just for a little while, I wanted to be with them. I wanted to hold them, kiss them... I had to go home. This is my life... my reason for living... my ikigai. I shifted into survival mode. I couldn’t die here. I promised my wife I’d return. From this point on, every kilometer I rode was to get back to my family.
