South Brunswick Marching Band Takes 5th Place In National Competition
This is the Viking Marching Band's highest finish since before the pandemic.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – The South Brunswick marching band has added another feather to it cap. The Viking Marching Band took fifth place in the US Bands Group V Open National Championships.
The band earned a remarkable score of 93.6, competing alongside 15 other top-tier bands from across the region. The competition was held at the Metlife Stadium.
The winner in this category was Upper Moreland High School, with a score of 98.100, followed by West Shore Marching Band in second place (95.900) and Norwalk High School in third place with a score of 95.850. Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School was placed fourth with a score of 93.950.
This is the Viking Marching Band highest finish since before the pandemic.
The school district congratulated the 120 students, and staff who dedicated their time and effort and worked tirelessly to bring their performance to life.

To our freshman,
You survived your inaugural season. It took a lot of sweat and maybe once or twice a lot of tears. Did you really know what you were signing up for? Did you know band could be such a demanding sport? But you did it! You really did it! I sure hope we will see you again next year.
To our sophomores and juniors,
You didn't just survive, you thrived. I saw you all step it up from last year and it really showed. This year's challenges were many but what you made happen by the season's end was sensational. You played and marched with determination and increased precision every show. Without many gimmicks or props to hide gaps or missteps, each member was really exposed. That took grit, gumption, and resilience. You got all of that and then some. Promise me you'll bring it next year!
To our seniors,
You pressed through all of the pandemic years. You saw the band rise and fall and you made it rise again. Your legacy is perseverance through major setbacks and absolute resilience! Just look at our strong finish this year at nationals.
Your mentorship and energy provided 'lift' to our band--a beautiful rising phoenix! Thank you so much for all you gave during your time with us. Wishing you all the brightest futures! Congratulations...you did it!
