The Southampton Model Railway Society held its 2024 exhibition over the weekend of 27th/28th January at the Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh. I visited on the Sunday, (quieter than the Saturday apparently) and enjoyed videoing, in 4K for the first time, an interesting selection of layouts. Portrayal of Portsmouth Town & Harbour stations and approaches in the post-nationalisation era. 06:30 Hayling Island - 00 gauge; 4mm scale - Richard Pretious, Alton Model Railway Group. Portrayal of the line on Hayling Island in the years before closure. 10:58 Radcliffe Road - 0 gauge; 7mm scale - Southampton MRS. What was once a through station is now a terminus in the late steam/early diesel era. Work in progress. 12:30 Harkness - EM gauge; 4mm scale - Tony Bucknell. Based on a light railway to a small coastal village in Northumberland. 15:40 Foxbury - 0 gauge; 7mm scale - Richard Burkert, SMRS. Based on a fictitious GWR branch line in the 1930s. 17:07 Fence Houses NCB - 00 gauge; 4mm scale - Ian Forsyth. Busy NCB shed in the coalfield area southwest of Sunderland. 22:10 Wimborne - 00 gauge finescale; 4mm scale - Wimborne Railway Society. Representation of the line through Wimborne station in the mid 1950s to early 1960s. Music: Late Night Train by Vans in Japan (free YouTube download).
