Here we take a ride on the famous Southern Pacific Tank Train that ran between Dolores Yard in Carson, California and the Oil Fields in Saco, north of Bakersfield California. The date is November 29, 1992, and our crew is Engineer Gerry Kelsay, Conductor CC Green, and Brakeman Delby. This ride covers a segment of the route, riding in SD40T-2 8529, taking the empties starting at Dolores Yard and ending at Taylor yard in Los Angeles. We see many historical sights that are no longer there, Dayton Tower, Redondo Tower, arched bridges over the Los Angeles river, and much more! Then riding in the cab of SD45R 7451, we then take the loads that came from Bakersfield that day back to Dolores, and finish the evening spotting the loads at the Shell Refinery. Additional details kindly provided by Mike Jarel: You start out on the westbound emptys passing Redondo Twr crossing the LA River around to 9th St. Jct. and head up the east bank Line up to LA. Then you jump to the loaded train heading back to Dolores, rounding the curve at Amoco and heading down the "PE" side to Dolores. The final scene is spotting the train at what was the Shell - Watson facility. Unfortunately we've lost Gerry and Cleo ("CC"), but as far as I know Delby Melton is still kicking around Manhattan Beach! All great guys to work with!
