Hey y'all! Today we're venturing into the South once again to chase Southern Railway 4501 as she pulls the Summerville Special train for the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. This video is Part 1 of 2, which will show the southbound trip to Summerville.
This 100-mile round trip excursion from Chattanooga Tennessee to Summerville Georgia is the longest that TVRM runs, and it only operates on specific days, unlike the museum's "Local" trains. On this weekend, my friend @jackboy317 and I chased it to Summerville and back, stopping at many places to take photos and videos. The weather was very cooperative, giving us lots of light and clear skies. The route to Summerville features many unique landmarks, including the McFarland Gap, the Whiteside Tunnel, and others. There's many historic depots on the route as well. All of this made for a fantastic two days on the backroads of the South!
The 4501 steam engine was built in 1911, making it one of the oldest I've ever seen. It's hard to believe she's been around for that long, but the proof's right in front of us!
