Dong Van, the northernmost part of Vietnam, where was suffered from attacks from China to Vietnam in 1976, 1984-86. Where water and soil are extremely rare. UNESCO recognized it as a global geological park, Khoai call this place the soul of the stone plateau. The stone made Dong Van become special and also the stone that makes this place harsh than other places of Vietnam.
Without land soil, people have to look for scanty soil to put onto the hole of rocks, sometimes it is just enough to grow a corn or some “Cải Mèo” vegetable. Without soil, without water, it means that there is no rice, and “Mèn Mén” made from ground corn flour is a common food of the poor. Because of the rocks, there are not enough for the forest so dry elephant grass, dry corn tree or even corn core are extremely valuable materials. If you look closely, along the side of mountain you will see the dry corn tree ricks which people are neat pile up and keep carefully. The first person I meet in this stone plateau is Mrs. Cho, she will treat me the “Mèn mén” and “Tổ Chúa” soup the traditional soup of the Mong people.
In the beginning of clip, Khoai eat “Tráng Kìm” Pho noodle before starting to go to Dong Van, this area has many restaurants sell it from $1.1-$1.5. On the way to Dong Van, if you can visit this place, let try it.
