G'day everyone,
A project that has been on my to do list for about 3 years is to make a spindle lock for the milling machine. The spindle spanner that comes with the mill is not well designed. The pins are very small and short, due to the design on the bottom spindle flange, and the spanner can very easily slip. When this happens I can and have cut myself on the endmill or workpiece.
It also doesn't help that I tend to lose the spindle wrench. More often than I would like to admit.
Now there are sever designs that I could have potentially gone with, designs that are similar to other mills, however I has limited in the design that I could do because of limitations with the spindle. Thin walls and bearings getting in the way.
This is the design I came up with. Works really well. May not be the end all and be all design, but for this specific mill, and what I wanted, it works about as good as it possibly could. I hope you enjoy the video. Cheers
