When you think of St Andrews you probably think of a nice coastal town with historical buildings. You probably immediately think of golf and I'm sure many will think of St Andrews University. But for one extended weekend in August, the town becomes a little different. That's when the Lammas Market comes to town. It's said to be the oldest street fair in Scotland, dating back to medieval times when the festival would celebrate the first harvest of the year. It's obviously changed a bit since then, but there's a lot of fun to be had! From the Friday through to Tuesday you'll find funfair rides on the cobbles of Market Street. Then on Monday and Tuesday the fun extends along the length of South Street. Word of warning, I think we spent about £20 in less than an hour and that's only on one child. So if you're on a budget some time might be well spent away. You're not going to want to spend the WHOLE weekend here if you want any money left in your pocket. So that's what we did. And headed to Craigton Country Park the next morning. Yeah, so it was very much a rain check moment, waiting out the weather before returning to the fair! Of course, as you'd expect at any fair, you've got plenty of food and snack options. But we will forever remain faithful to the institution that is Janettas.
