ABOUT this concert:
Stanley Clarke is, both on acoustic and on electric bass, a brilliant player. Although he also rubbed shoulders with other musical genres than jazz (r&b, pop and classical) he still succeeded in playing with the best jazz legends on earth. As a kid he already played with Gil Evans, Mel Lewis, Horace Silver, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon en so forth and so on. His name and fame rose when he joined Chick Corea’s Return to Forever, where his bass sound was an important motor of the rock oriented fusion quartet. From the mid-seventies on he funked up the band of George Duke, with whom he recorded a lot of successful albums. Clarke is a complete musician, who next to his scorching shows also likes to compose a lot. A big hobby of his is composing and playing big orchestral scores for television shows and movies (Boys N the Hood, What’s Love Got to Do With It and Romeo Must Die).
