In Part 2, we "birth" the cakes and actually fruit mushrooms! This is the most satisfying part of the whole process.

It is not the best way to grow mushrooms, but it is a fun science project for growing mushrooms at home, and you can do it without any special equipment that you can't get at the grocery store or hardware store.
SUBSTRATE:
For Every 6 cakes use about:
-3.5 cups vermiculite
-1 cup brown rice flour
-350 ml water
MATERIAL REQUIRED (part 1, substrate and inoculation):
-Coarse Vermiculite (look in garden centers or here https://amzn.to/2yBGQvc )
-Brown Rice Flour (I used Bob’s Red Mill https://amzn.to/2KoWWuZ)
-250 ML wide mouth canning jars (make sure they are wide mouth or else you won’t be able to get your cakes out https://amzn.to/3axaUFE)
-tinfoil for covering the lids
-large clear tote for SAB (112 qt should be good https://amzn.to/2xRbl0b)
-isopropyl alcohol (if you can find it right now!)
-spray bottle for isopropyl alcohol
-paper towel
-lighter or alcohol lamp
-liquid culture syringe (i used mycelium emporium)
MATERIAL REQUIRED (part 2, fruiting):
-another large tote for making the fruiting chamber
-coarse perlite
-another spray bottle for water
-repti-fogger (optional)
