Noboribetsu Onsen is a famous Japan hot springs town that is only 2 hours from Sapporo or 3 hours from Hakodate by train - its a good day trip idea from Sapporo, especially if you can spare a day and if you are someone who loves onsen in Japan. But our recommendation is to stay overnight in the local ryokan onsen resort. In this video we are continuing our journey from Hakodate and arriving after 2 hours at Noboribetsu station - you can get around Hokkaido using the local transportation via the Hokkaido rail pass. Once we arrive at Noboribetsu Station there is two ways you can make your way up towards Noboribetsu Onsen - which is where the hot spring town, restaurants and hotels are - you can take a bus or taxi. We then ate at Fukuya Soba Noodle for some delicious Japanese food: fresh handmade soba noodles and ebi tempura dishes. Its worth knowing that most restaurants here have a small window of opening hours 11am-3pm (some may reopen at 5pm, some don't - so best to plan your visit to Noboribetsu Hokkaido Japan in advance) After that, trek up Jigokudani Hell Valley to see the sulfur vents - this is the source of the spring water around Noboribetsu Onsen. For accommodation we stayed at a Japanese ryokan hotel called Dai-Chi Takimotokan which has the biggest Grand Bathhouse Onsen in Hokkaido Japan. The grand bathhouse is approximately 5000 sqm. We also ordered in the hotel dining kaiseki, price per night including kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast was $500. What is Kaiseki? Kaiseki (懐石) is a traditional multi course Japanese dinner. Kaiseki is a prescribed set of courses that is dependent on the seasonal produce. If you are in Hokkaido region, don't forget to visit local convenience store called Seicomart which serving some of cheap local foods like zangi (fried chicken), onigiri, bento and hot food under house brand Secoma. This konbini or convenience shop is similar with 7-eleven, FamilyMart and Lawson but Seicomart is only available in Hokkaido region so it's definitely must visit spot!
