Steam locomotives always face challenges on their journies, most of which are hills and grades. Even just a 1% grade, meaning the track rises one foot for every 100 feet of distance, can still pose a challenge to any locomotive and crew. In most cases, the engineer has to open up the throttle more than usual and that can make quite a show. I've encountered many locomotives in my days of photographing them, most of which put on quite a show. So please enjoy this compilation I put together of my favorite encounters of locomotives and crew showing off what they can do.
