On the 1st of October 2017, Steamranger Heritage Railway, South Australia operated their 'Southern Encounter' special from Mount Barker to Victor Harbor hauled by steam locomotive 621.
The 164km(101mi) return journey twas hauled solo by 621 from Mount Barker to Goolwa where steam locomotive Rx207 was added to the consist for the run along the coastline to Victor Harbor.
At Victor Harbor, both locomotives were turned and 621 ran back to Goolwa before returning back to Victor harbor once again. On the return from Goolwa 621 crossed Rx207 at Middleton and once being again turned at Victor Harbor ran the return journey back to Mount Barker.
SteamRanger is a historic tourist railway operator in South Australia running trains between Mount Barker and Victor Harbor. It is the only group regularly operating broad gauge steam locomotives in South Australia and is run by volunteers of the South Australian Division of the Australian Railway Historical Society.
Steamranger also brags the rights as the longest tourist railway in the Southern Hemisphere and second in the world to the Grand Canyon Railway.
