On January 7, 2019, the White House Historical Association hosted its 3rd annual Stephen Decatur Jr. Birthday Luncheon at the Stephen Decatur House in Washington, D.C. Commodore Stephen Decatur was a naval war hero during the War of 1812, who built a home on the corner of Lafayette Square in front of the White House. This home still stands today and it under the stewardship of the White House Historical Association. This year's luncheon included a panel of speakers moderated by former news reporter and White House correspondent Ann Compton. Those speakers included Vice Adm. Walter E. "Ted" Carter Jr., the superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, Zach Abey, quarterback of the Naval Academy football team, and Admiral John C. Harvey, Jr., retired Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia.
