1) Why I stopped buying pillowcases. I sew it myself with a simple but stylish detail (I don’t understand why manufacturers don’t do this).
Bed linen is always in demand. The pillowcase in it is the smallest item. Most often, its size does not fit the pillow. Now there are no strict standards and pillows are sold in all sizes.
We recently bought pillows 64x43 cm, neither here nor there, but it looks like 70x50 cm. Therefore, we have to sew the pillowcase ourselves. It's not difficult at all.
When sewing, you need to take into account that the pillowcase should be slightly larger than the pillow itself, that is, there should be allowances for a loose fit. The pillowcase is attached to the pillow using wraps, buttons, zippers, and ties.
In most cases, natural fabrics are used: chintz, calico, linen, satin. Before work, it is better to moisten them to avoid shrinkage after washing.
The pillowcase protects the pillow from contamination, and if it is a small sofa cushion, then the pillowcase also serves as decoration.
Today I will sew an elegant combined pillowcase with bows for a pillow, size 40x40 cm. For work, I took fabric of three colors that match each other in color scheme.
Sewing details:
- Two squares 45x45 cm.
- Smell 2 pcs. 25x45 cm.
- 4 strips 10x40 cm for ties.
How to sew:
1) I stitched the square pieces of the pillow on three sides.
2) I sewed the smell on the sides. I overlocked the seams and turned up the edges.
3) I sewed the ties, turned them right side out and made a finishing stitch.
4) Stepping back 8 cm from the edges of the pillowcase, I sewed 2 ties on each side.
5) I connected the pillowcase and the scent with right sides facing each other, stitched and basted. Turned it right side out.
6) This is what it looks like. One side of the scent covers the pillow.
7) Bows not only decorate, but also secure the pillowcase.
If you love original products, then you will definitely like this tailoring option.
Moreover, you can use several types of colors. She exudes homely warmth and comfort.
2) A woman from the outback taught how to reuse leftover fabric. I show you a great way to fit pieces into a whole canvas.
If you do sewing and handicrafts, then you know for sure that even the smallest pieces of fabric should not be thrown away. Garbage is a relative concept, what some people throw in the trash bin, others turn into exclusive things.
The first thing that comes to mind is to sew a bedspread or seat for a chair in a patchwork style from scraps. And it is not necessary to sew even pieces; you can sew them on top of each other and you will get a whole canvas.
Products using this technique are no longer compared to rustic style; on the contrary, now it is fashionable and stylish. Bedspreads with a well-chosen pattern are sold at a fairly high price.
You can create a pattern much easier if you use some secrets.
Today I have a pillow sewn in this style. The drawing is created easily and quickly.
1) First you need to select fabrics so that they match each other.
2) The first pieces are two squares 11x11 cm. On one part, step back 1 cm from the edge and draw lines along which the stitching will go. Make a crisscross pattern inside.
3) Fold the squares right sides inward and stitch on 4 sides, zigzag the edges.
4) Make a notch on the cross-shaped line and cut through the fabric to the corners.
5) Unfold the resulting petals and iron them. Cut off protruding corners.
6) The result is a square 13x13 cm. The same exact size is cut out of another fabric and lines are drawn as in the first case.
7) Now, each time the square becomes larger and larger: 15x15 cm, 19x19 cm, 24x24 cm and 31x31 cm. If you are planning a large pillow, you can continue like this.
8) In our case, the next piece is a strip of fabric 6 cm wide. It is sewn first on 2 opposite sides, and then longer on the other 2 sides.
9) I did this 2 times. The result was a square measuring 47x47 cm.
10) On the back side I sewed 2 pieces of fabric that overlap each other.
If you sew several identical motifs, you will get a bedspread or blanket.
