INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 2.13.25 | 10:31
LOCATION: San Bernardino Mountains
AREA/CITY: San Bernardino Mountains
DETAILS:
The storm has started producing heavy snowfall at some of the higher-elevation landmarks along Highway 18.
Blizzard-like conditions are developing at the chain control checkpoint before Snow Valley Resort.
Powerful winds have arrived in the area, and the snow storm is increasing in strength, making for brutal conditions for anyone installing chains.
Vehicles, including semi-trucks, are getting stuck on the snowy highways.
Some semis were seen putting chains on, while another motorist was spun into a drainage.
About a dozen vehicles are either stuck or trying to put chains on throughout the Arctic Circle area of Highway 18 as snow continues to slam the highway.
A wintery mix of slush snow and heavy rain started just north of Running Springs; however, as we made it further up the mountain, the wintery mix turned to heavy snowfall a couple of miles before Snow Valley.
At Snow Valley, the snow was sticking heavily and is starting to pile up along Highway 18 all the way through what is known as the Arctic Circle.
