झांकर सेम मंदिर की कथा | Story of Jhankar Saim Temple Almora
It is said about the incarnation of Jhakar Sem that in this beautiful forest of deodars, he appeared in a very pure form in the form of a linga under a deodars tree. He was identified by the women cutting grass of the nearby village because when some women had come to the forest to collect wood, one woman was lightly hitting the deodars tree with the tip of her sickle. Suddenly a stream of blood started gushing out of the deodars tree. The women got scared and went to the village and narrated the entire incident. It is said that when the villagers reached there, they saw that the same blood was now turning into a stream of milk and getting absorbed in a linga. That is, it was named Jhakar = dense Sem = swamp and it started being worshipped in the form of Shiv.
One of the most famous temples of Lord Shiva is Jhankar Saim Temple, located three kilometers from Jageshwar Dham in Uttarakhand. It is believed that Lord Shiva meditated here before being installed as Tarun Jageshwar in Jageshwar Dham. But while he was meditating here, the wives of the Saptarishis were fascinated by his charm. This angered the Saptarishis and Lord Shiva was installed in Tarun Jageshwar. He remained present in Jhankar Saim as Saim Devta. It is believed in Kumaon that this temple got this name due to the matted locks of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva and Mahakali are believed to reside in this temple. The greatness of Jhankar Saim is also described in 'Manaskhand'.
