Last summer, my plans for a solo backpacking trip on North Manitou Island in Michigan fell through, so I was excited to reattempt this year. I invited (or she invited herself, or it was simultaneous?) my friend Madison to join, as she had been looking to go on her first backpacking trip this summer.
Our time on the island was everything we'd hoped for (though maybe a little too rainy); that is, until we found out the Sunday ferry was cancelled. We were stuck on the island for a third night with dwindling food supplies... While, we were bummed to not be able to spend the night at the DH Day Campground at the Sleeping Bear Dunes as planned, we made the most of our extra time on the island with an extra day hike to Lake Manitou.
Hope you enjoy this video! Believe it or not, even after backpacking through 36 hours of rain and being abandoned by the ferry, Madison (Maddog) seems to want to go backpacking again. I'll say - mission accomplished ☺️🌧️⛴️
