Discover unexpected, centuries old alpine architecture in an area of Aquitaine with no mountain. Nearly one hundred of these incredible houses are still standing near the border between the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne departements. The one we explored is in its original condition but most of them have been absorbed in more recent buildings or transformed in comfortable cottages. Their huge beam walls, almost fossilised, make a good insulation. One wonders how, in Paris, a mere cigarette butt could set fire to even much older frameworks..
