Hello all,
Welcome to a Victorian heritage train video. Today we fight the summer heat for another regional tour. This time, Steamrail Victoria ran their heritage diesels out to Dunolly for a day trip. They began out of Southern Cross Station in a sizeable consist, showcasing the best of a bygone era. The first headed west along the RFR, then onto the Ballarat Line. After a couple of brief stops along the way for crosses, they arrived into Maryborough, where some of the passengers disembarked. The train then proceeded on to Dunolly, where the rest of the passengers disembarked to spend lunch. The return trip was very much the same, however by now the V/Line network had its extreme heat timetable activated. A slightly slower return was being made until Ballarat, where they skipped around the slower services to get back into Melbourne close to the scheduled time.
For this tour, the double S-class locomotives were enlisted again, along with T364. The dDifference this time was that the engines were marshalled in a top-and-tail formation due to the lack of run-round facilities in Dunolly. S301 took the lead on the DOWN with S313 and T364 on the rear.
In this video, we begin our day with the transfer, then hop over to the RFR to begin our chase west.
