Grab a cup of coffee this is a long one! I started out thinking I was going to build a quick mock-up but decided early in the build to make a finished model. This structure is very near my home which is also near where cousins and uncles lived early in their lives.
The town is now a ghost of what it was in the 40's when my Grandparents moved to the area when the Katy (Missouri Kansas and Texas MKT) still ran through town. I posted photos of the finished model on FB and several family members recalled memories of climbing to the top of this elevator. It seems it is a right of passage for Carrell's to encounter some sort of wild life in this building.
I'm not sure this type of Grain Elevator would be "appropriate" on my layout in the given pretend location but it was a must build for me regardless. I'm sure I will discuss the validity of it's location later. Maroon Creek is in a valley where they also grew wheat! See Rule #1 :-)
