Known for its challenging incline and sharp twists, Red Bank sets the stage for an unforgettable journey as we drop into the enchanting village of Grasmere.
Grasmere, one of the Lake District’s most loved villages, offers us a charming blend of old-world charm and stunning natural beauty. Passing through this quintessential English village, we turn south-east towards the serene waters of Rydal Water, known for its reflective beauty and scenic surroundings. The route takes us through lush greenery, capturing the peaceful atmosphere as we pedal alongside Rydal’s gentle shores.
Heading further south, we’ll venture through rolling fells and open pastures, feeling the rustic charm of the Lake District’s expansive landscapes. The terrain here is gentle yet captivating, dotted with hikers, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts enjoying the busy trails and pathways of the day. As we veer west, we encounter Clappersgate and make our way towards the quaint Skelwith Bridge, a popular spot that offers stunning views of the River Brathay and nearby woodlands.
Our ride then follows the scenic trails along Elter Water, where we catch glimpses of the lake shimmering in the afternoon light. Alongside walkers and fellow cyclists, we pedal into the heart of Elter Water itself, taking in every detail of this hidden gem. The natural beauty here is timeless, with fells and open skies framing our journey and immersing us in the untouched charm of the Lake District.
For our final leg, we ascend the challenging path over the top of Red Bank. This climb gives us one last sweeping view of the Lake District’s diverse landscapes before we descend back into Grasmere.
