I heard Lawrence English's wonderful tracks on "ShellType," and wanted to make something similar, so I set up Sub (00:28) to pulse a 40 Hz tone through a modified reverb preset in Chameleon (00:56). Then, I ran my field recording through SILO (01:24) and then BYOME to first granularize it a bit in SILO and to then comb-filter a changing tone out of it (by LFO in BYOME (see bottom of effect (01:38)).
What I got was a field recording that had an underlying tone to it but was still full-on coming through and an underlying deep pulsation at 40 Hz that gave a kind of deep feel to it. I let it run for the entire length of the field recording and faded in and out at both the beginning and end. Now I have something akin to English's ShellType - an album and artist I highly recommend if you like microsound minimal ambient and field recordings, as I do.
The field recording is a track I recorded in 2018 of my backyard one fine morning.
I also played around with the equalization in Sonnox Claro and made a few other modifications during this lengthy video, as I would during composing and mixing.
I highly recommend this album/artist...
