花相撲や巡業相撲の土俵上で力士が披露する甚句。 甚句は元日本民謡の一種で，相撲甚句は越後甚句の流れといわれる。 力士が余興的に土俵でうたい，それに合わせて踊ったのでこの名が生まれ，江戸時代末期から始まった。
