Send me a coffee to drink in my Orikaso cup! https://ko-fi.com/tjbarts
The first in a Green Hiker series, this continues my look into cooking while hiking but with an ethical green stance. Is the petroleum hydrocarbon based gas canisters destroying the planet?
We all talk big game about 'Leave No Trace' but shouldn't that extend to the things we bring with us, that pollute the enviroment, even if that is maybe out of sight in a distant land? Surely LNT should be for the entire planet, not just where we hike.
So in my search for greener way to cook, I talk about my experiences with wood gas stoves such as the BioLite and demonstrate my Toaks Titanium Wood Stove and what fuel I use. I then try an alcohol stove for the first time on camera - the Speedster 50ml stove with simmer ring, and demonstrate my DIY stand and DIY Caldera Cone Clones (video upcoming on how to make those). I talk about bioethanol vs methylated spirits (comment section get ready!) and how to cheaply store and measure the fuel.
I also have fun trying to fold up an Orikaso cup on camera! Oh the things I do for you lot....
It's a long one but a lot of fun, and not just me yakking to camera this time. Show don't tell as they say! And amazingly both stoves worked, but again neither did a rolling boil, but the alcohol stove was cleaner and faster I found. I explain why in the video.
And announcing the new intro and music, thank you AI. I've learned a lot about CapCut and using my phone for recording, framing etc, and I hope it shows. There's light years difference in quality here from the last video I think, and I am getting better at presenting on camera, I'm used to hiding behind a microphone!

Primula Brew Buddy - now cheaper, £16.97 for two https://amzn.to/3FzQw8K or £16 for one https://amzn.to/3SjE6cN (so the former is a better deal, if you say sell one or keep it for spares or go in with a mate)

Lixada "750ml" (not) The Titanium Cup of Doom https://amzn.to/3Qzmbh4 - mine was the Cafe Press version https://amzn.to/40jOi7k now modded with a heatproof Bakelite knob and silicon tubing. I made a DIY hacks video here on the latter : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CXPg-ydyJY but it's same thing.
Some of these are Amazon Affiliate UK links - look I hate Jeff Bezos probably more than you, but I'm poor and these help the channel. Otherwise find it cheaper elsewhere and maybe bung me the difference at https://ko-fi.com/tjbarts - better for everyone! Remember: reuse, recycle, repair, secondhand is ALWAYS better.
