After arriving on Tahiti and a two days stay on the island, including a refresher dive at la "vallée blanche" and a visit to the famous breaks of "Teahupoo", we moved on to Maupiti. This is where it all started.

Our short but phenomenal stay on Maupiti, set the stage at the beginning of our 5 week trip around French Polynesia. Maupiti is really a jewel of an island and will play, if, or better when, we return, a much larger role during our future visits. Maupiti really has it all: perfect white beaches, azure blue lagoon, a beautiful mountain, and last but not least, a healthy population of reef mantas who are residents to the picturesque lagoon. This island is also considered as the "small sister island of Bora Bora", and rumors say, it offers much of what the bigger sister promises. But there remains one big difference. Whereas Bora Bora attracts the honeymooners with its fancy overwater bungalows, pricy attractions, and top-notch social media presents, Maupiti remains a small island with only a few hands full of pensions that accommodate its visitors, ensuring a relaxing, low key stay in paradise.
