When Yang Style Tai Chi arrived in Beijing, the most prominent fighting method there was Shuai Jiao, Chinese wrestling. Yang Luchan, the founder of Yang style Tai Chi, was able to fight for two weeks, undefeated, earning himself the name of Yang the Undefeated. What this tells us is that, beyond what has been lost, and inside what may have been kept secret, within Tai Chi is a method of anti-grappling that has been proven to be more than effective.
Luckily for us, the Yang family taught the soldiers and guards of the capital. And that meant their skills were tested, and their secrets were revealed, even if only to a select few.
In this video, we take a look at the first of the essential Tai Chi skills, Fascia control, and how that gives us the ability to get out of danger, neutralize their offense, and obtain positional superiority in stand-up grappling.
This is the key because what a grappler wants to do against you, is to force their advantageous position upon you. And before you bet it all on a strike, a Fajin, or rushed take down, it would be best to deny them exactly what they want, position, and to take the best and most advantageous position for yourself, would it not?
