Last weekend I went to the Anything Goes Gala at the Talyllyn - I filmed lots of trains, and rode on loads of trains, and ran lots of garden trains, and filmed lots of garden trains, and thought about lots of trains, and in general there were just trains. Here's some trains - enjoy!
The Talyllyn Railway was built in 1865 to carry slate from Bryneglwys Quarry to Tywyn. It survived all the way until 1951 with all of its original locos and stock, having purchased basically nothing (save coal) since 1866! In 1950, its owner, Sir Haydn, passed away, and with him basically all hope of the railway surviving. Despite this, however, when a small group of people heard the line was to be scrapped, they made the unheard of decision to run it themselves as a voluntary concern! Despite all the odds, they suceeded, and today the fruits of their labour are evident in the success of the line.
