Last weekend, I went (surprise!) for a week of volunteering at the Talyllyn Railway! Whilst there, I got a fair few shots, including 1 in her stunning new livery! It looks brilliant - nothing looked quite as good as finally seeing her and 2 together in Pendre again - truly a sight to be seen! It survived all the way until 1951 with all of its original locos and stock, having purchased basically nothing (save coal) since 1866! In 1950, its owner, Sir Haydn, passed away, and with him basically all hope of the railway surviving. Despite this, however, when a small group of people heard the line was to be scrapped, they made the unheard of decision to run it themselves as a voluntary concern! Despite all the odds, they suceeded, and today the fruits of their labour are evident in the success of the line. 00:00 Intro 00:11 Talyllyn near Abergynolwyn 00:43 Dolgoch passing 'the gate to adventure' 01:24 Sir Haydn at Forestry Crossing 02:17 Talyllyn crossing Dolgoch Viaduct 02:32 Dolgoch leaving Dolgoch 03:34 Sir Haydm leaving Dolgoch 04:24 Tom Rolt near Forestry Crossing 04:39 Dolgoch crossing Dolgoch Viaduct 05:03 Talyllyn leaving Wharf 05:34 Dolgoch arriving at Abergynolwyn 05:53 Dolgoch crossing the viaduct 06:12 Sir Haydn on the viaduct 06:47 Sir Haydn leaving Abergynolwyn 07:41 Talyllyn arriving at Abergynwolwyn 08:09 Tom Rolt near Aber 08:25 Sir Haydn at Wharf 09:42 Talyllyn near Aber 09:55 Tom Rolt at Dolgoch 10:21 Outro
