Our 2018 TIFF Industry Conference will open with an intimate and inspiring conversation with award-winning Canadian activist and screen icon Tantoo Cardinal. An eminent activist and artist with an indomitable presence, Cardinal's seminal portraits of Indigenous characters have ignited screens globally in more than 120 film, television, and theatre projects over a 40-year career. Her credits include Dances with Wolves, Legends of the Fall, Black Robe, Wind River, Unnatural & Accidental, Luna: Spirit of the Whale, Sioux City, Mothers & Daughters, Loyalties, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Longmire, and Westworld.

Cardinal's advocacy is interwoven into all facets of her career. She works with clear purpose and conviction and, through the humanity of her craft, has elevated the authentic stories, visibility, and voices of Indigenous people around the world, on- and off-screen.

Cardinal is featured in three films at TIFF 2018, including the lead role in Darlene Naponse's Falls Around Her. She is also a Member of the Order of Canada — one of the country's highest civilian honours — and was recently invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a voting member. Join us and TIFF programmer Danis Goulet for an illuminating conversation with Tantoo Cardinal!
