This week on The Horti-Culturalists we are paying the first of two visits to the wonderful Rayner's Orchard just out side of Melbourne in the Yarra Valley. Rayner's is an incredible year-round fruit-picking paradise full of the most delicious and pretty left of field fruits you could imagine that are able to grow in the Yarra Valley. Most of the trees and shrubs we'll look at would make ideal small garden specimens if you are looking for some unusual fruiting plants to include in your garden. Rayner's is open year round and they guarantee there will always be at least eight different fruits for you to pick and eat during your visit! You can find out more here: https://www.raynersorchard.com.au/ They have a plant nursery and a cafe with the most delicious seasonal ice cream made on site from their own fruits!
The plants we look at in this video are:
Eugenia uniflora - Brazilian cherry [ in fact this is Plinia cauliflora and we give the wrong name in the vdieo!]
Feijoa sellowiana
Solanum betaceum - Tamarillo
Ziziphus jujuba
Citrus australasica
Psidium cattleyanum - strawberry guava
Psidium guajava - lemon guava
Mespilus germanica now Crataegus germanica - Medlar
Actinidia chinensis - kiwifruit
Actinidia arguta - kiwiberry
