二風谷イタは、百年以上前から沙流川流域に住むアイヌの人々などによって受け継がれて来ました。19世紀半ばには、この地域から半月盆や丸盆が献上されたという記録が残っています。
Nibutani-ita are flat, shallow trays made of wood, and are characterized by designs unique to the Ainu people such as Moreunoka(spiral), Aiushinoka(thorn) and Shikunoka(eye) patterns, as well as Ramuramunoka(carved fish-scale) designs which fill the gaps in the pattern.
These trays are both beautiful and useful.
